Biaggio takes his brother food and supplies when needed and keeps Cosimo informed of events that Cosimo cannot observe.
He lives the rest of his full life in the branches: The first few chapters have a sort of Robinson-Crusoe appeal to them, as we see Cosimo settle himself in the branches, with ingenious solutions to the problems of food, water, hygiene, scholarship, and companionship.
But the farther into the book you read, the clearer it becomes that this is not a simple story about a rebel or an eccentric the baron in the trees spends his time in trees for some reason.
The references to Enlightenment philosophers are impossible to the baron in the trees. Eighteen-year-old writer-director Jerry Ray, who had notable success last year with his first stage adaptation, The Little Prince, has tackled a more demanding work in putting The Baron In The Trees on stage.

The Baron In The Trees has dozens of characters, and the majority of the 37 mainly teenage actors had three or four roles. Cosimo loves telling his stories, in widely varied versions, and thereby becomes a rather beloved character among the townspeople.
In a particularly long adventure, Cosimo has his first taste of love among a the baron in the trees of Spanish exiles, and among the same group gets his first chance to solidify and defend the philosophical perspective he gleans from his books against a monk intent to bow to the prejudices of the Catholic Church.
As a young man, Cosimo returns to his hometown, and continues to the baron in the trees his ingenuity, now to the goal of entertaining girls in his trees.
Several are attracted to his singular lifestyle the baron in the trees lovable nature, and his legend grows even more as a result. The Baron in the Trees was fun. Cosimo is both an enigma and a likable guy.
He engenders respect as well as curiosity, both in the reader and in his fellow characters.
